COMMENTS |
With special thanks to AJ_Impy for his support and assistance. I could not have played this event without him. In fact, I planned on skipping it (too locked out from the best tribes and cost prohibitive for my tastes).
Without further ado, here is the foreword about the two impostors to enlighten those who may not be in the know: A) As I predicted would happen last week, my run at a hat-trick this season was again halted by hardcore mana screw, just as it happened months ago during the last attempt in the final match. I don't know if this time it was also an event that occurs once every 3,333 games, as it was last time vs. Generalissimo, but this time it was 24-land aggro getting 1-land openers repeatedly, bricking on mana, and then a Commune MISSING on any land at all in the top 5. That doesn't sound too probable either. 28 mana sources aggro getting screwed and not a single land in the top 5 cards?! Do people watch me play and realize what is happening to me? B) I wish the article hyping this event would talk about what the players can play and what they cannot play. I feel it would be enlightening and illuminating to know about the incoming meta, and to, you know, celebrate (or undermine?) achievement. Isn't that what this event is all about? I heard some poor soul cannot play 8 out of the 10 tribes, so it must've been a rough time for him; both in terms of deck construction, and the ensuing competition itself, having been unable to play Elf, Human, Goblin, Eldrazi, the undisputed 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, whilst others can. (I would argue it would be nice to see other similar-such statistics on achievement, but that's a story for another day). Far be it from superiority; an advocate for a level playing-field amongst all players is an exercise in the polar opposite - equality. Pure equality. Can we find out what the best is when players are restricted from choosing what they think is best? I could neither get nor afford FoW, so the power level of this deck is significantly lower than it could be, so my work is cut out for me. Nonetheless, I will try my best, with my hands tied, both by a habitually unforgiving shuffler that dishes out statistical anomalies regularly, and stifling rules that poetically defeat me with my own victories. Thank you again AJ! |
